“Kaiju” works through contrast. In this June 2014 #SenateSalute review, KAV1ANI highlights the way XVII moves from ethereal chords into heavy percussion and a sharply different synth-led drop.
From atmosphere to impact
The opening creates a spacious, almost church-like mood before a marching drum pattern enters. Roughly a quarter of the way through, the production changes direction, putting heavier 808 impact and more aggressive synth melodies at the center.
For KAV1ANI, that shift gives the track its identity: light against dark, atmosphere against weight, and a reason to return for another listen.
The production behind the contrast
The original review praises the track’s dynamic range and separation. It places XVII in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and identifies him as one half of the production duo NSTY alongside Tampa-based LVX.
At the time of publication, the review described LVX as sixteen. That detail belongs to the 2014 archive, rather than a current artist biography.
